chili season

I started with the idea that we had an ice storm on the way so I decided to make chili for dinner.

I don't like kidney beans so I used 2 packages of my pink beans, rinsed, added them to my gallon container and filled it with water to soak over night.

They did what they were supposed to do...grow

I chopped up an onion (wearing sunglasses this time) and added it to 4 pounds of hamburger

After the hamburger is cooked most of the way drain and then add the onions and finish cooking.

1 quart of beef stock, 4 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1 quart of tomatoes (canned or bought), 1/2 cup of chili powder, 2 tablespoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of oregano

This is my final product. I started it out in the crockpot this morning but my beans weren't soft enough even having soaked all night and weren't going to be ready for dinner ,so into the potato pot and on the stove they went. I added a large can of tomato paste towards the end for thickening and flavor. hmm The flavor. What it tasted like to me was Dennison's chili. whoop-dy doo. I spend 2 days creating dinner and I could have bought the same damn thing for 89 cents a can. Grumpy liked it. Everyone liked it but they like fish sticks too so that doesn't say much :)

Like I said, Grumpy liked it and I had half of it left after dinner so I canned 4 quarts and put the rest in the fridge for him for lunch tomorrow. Chili dogs, anyone?

ps, if anyone has an idea on what ingredient I was missing please PLEASE let me know. I was very disappointed in the bland flavor.
